As artificial intelligence systems acquire the capability to generate perfectly photorealistic media, voice clones, and indistinguishable source code, digital society faces an epistemic collapse. The ability to mathematically prove human or algorithmic origin is no longer just an enterprise luxury; it is the fundamental requirement for trust.
Legacy cryptography solves this poorly. The cryptographic algorithms protecting web standards today (RSA, ECC) are vulnerable to Shor's algorithm, executable by stable quantum computers. This introduces a catastrophic failure vector: all signatures generated today can be retroactively stripped of authenticity tomorrow.
